A Look at Mughals Lineage:
Mughals ruled India for around 300 years since 1526, an unknown fact to many Indians about the Mughals is that whose lineage did the Mughals follow whether their paternal or maternal.
Mughals have “Mongol” lineage, yes the name Mughal is derived from “Mongol”, they were the descendants of two Rulers.
- From their mother's side, they were descendants of “Genghis Khan”, a cruel Mongol ruler who ruled over parts of China and Central Asia.
- From their father's side, they were the successors of “Timur”, another tyrant from Iran, Iraq, and modern Turkey who attacked India.
- The Mughals referred to themselves as “Timurids” as descendants of the Turkish ruler “Timur” on the paternal side.

Timur was their Paternal Side - born in Uzbekistan and died in Kazakhstan, a Turko Mongol ruler who founded the Timurid Empire in Afghanistan.
Rulers Of Mughal Empire
1. Babur - 1526 to 1530
- In the year 1526 Babur, the founder of the Mughal Dynasty succeeded the throne of Ferghana (City in Uzbekistan) he was forced to leave his ancestral throne due to the invasion of another Mongol Group, The Uzbeks.
- Babur wandered many years and in 1504 he seized Kabul, Afghanistan.
- In 1526 Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodi and his Afghan supporters in Panipat, in 1527 Rana Sanga gave Babur fears and with help of other rulers, Babur defeated Rana Sanga and the Rajputs.
2. Humayun - 1530 to 1540, 1555 to 1556
- Babur was succeeded by his son Humayun, Humayun is none other father of Jalaluddin Akbar so-called Akbar the Great.
- When walking down from the staircase Humayun slipped and fell in which his head was severely injured and later succumbed to the injuries in 1556.
3. Akbar - 1556 to 1605
- Akbar was only 13 when he sat on the throne as his father Humayun passed away during his reign Akbar was guided by Bairam Khan.
- Akbar was termed as the most important ruler of the Mughal Dynasty for his Military Campaigns.
- During his last years of reign his son, Prince Salim (Jehangir) revolted against Akbar for the throne.
4. Jahangir - 1605 to 1627
- Jahangir son of Akbar, he had good relations with the Rajputs and had very less successful campaigns against the Sikh Rulers, the Ahoms.
- Jahangir was distracted by prince Khurram (Shah Jahan) by a rebellion for the throne during his last years of reign.
5. Shah Jahan - 1627 to 1658
- Shah Jahan son of Jahangir, the person who made workers build the Majestic Taj Mahal in memory of his begum Mumtaz.
- During his reign, he faced few unsuccessful campaigns, in the Northwest his campaign to seize Balkh from the Uzbeks were unsuccessful and he also lost Qandahar to the Safavids.
- Again he faced a revolt from his son Aurangzeb, Aurangzeb killed his brothers and sent his father Shah Jahan to prison for rest of his life.
6. Aurangzeb - 1658 to 1707
- The cruellest ruler of the Mughal Dynasty, he conducted many successful campaigns during his reign.
- defeated the Ahoms in 1663, during his last days he also faced a rebellion from his son Prince Akbar with the support of Marathas and Deccan Sultanate. Aurangzeb finally fled to Safavid, Iran.
- Aurangzeb faced many rebellions from the Sikhs, Marathas started the Guerrilla Warfare against Aurangzeb.
After Aurangzeb Mugal dynasty saw a very weak ruler, hence their rule came to an end and was taken over by the East India Company that is the British.
