I will write about one King after reading this one Incident for sure he will be Your Favourite One too.
Rest of the world has always looked at India with awe Inspiration for centuries in all the fields, as Indan Culture is strictly Based On Dharma.
The above Statue is Ellalan (Manu Needhi Cholan / Sama Needhi Kanda Cholan - 205 BC to 161 BC) - Neethi Means (Justice).

About Manu Needhi Cholan
- The Righteous One.
- He made no distinction between Animals and Men. Treated everyone equally and dealt impartial justice to them.
- For many years he was not blessed with a son. He worshipped God and prayed to him in the hope that he would grant him a SON.
- His prayers were answered. The son that was born to him was named Vithi Vidangan.
- Even Vithi Vidangan followed his father’s path, respected all the nobles, subjects from high to low.
- He also loved animals as dearly like his brothers and sisters just like his father
Manu Neeehi Cholan’s Bell Tower
- The king had created a Bell Tower in his palace for the people. who is aggrieved and in need of Justice from the King Himself.
- The aggrieved can trigger the bell and on hearing the bell sound the king will assemble his learned counsellors to hear the aggrieved and announce the Judgement.
Prince Vithi Vidangan and The Calf.
- One day the prince Vithi Vidangan started his chariot to visit the temple of the City and offer prayers to God.
- On the way, a calf was caught under the wheels of the chariot and was killed on the Spot.
- The prince was shocked and was in the state of sorrow, he was worried that how will his father feel for this. Who never hurt the smallest creature in his lifetime.
- How will he feel when he hears that the poor calf has been killed and how shocked will he be to hear that his own son was the cause.
- Above all Vithi Vidangan was worried how will the mother of the cal feel when she sees her baby dead and lying in a Heap.
- How would the mother feel only this morning she must have fed her child.
- The prince decided to end his life before the news reaches his father.
- People who had gathered around the prince saw how deeply sad he was, they tried to console him and prevented him from killing himself.
- The Cow mother of the calf came in search of her baby and came to the spot where her young one was lying dead.
- She began to show her deepest grief. Everyone around was in tears after seeing the cow’s grief.
One Incident which described the Greatness and Kindness of Manu Needhi Cholan.
Only for a short time, the cow stood there and then she ran towards the bell tower. The cow pulled rope with her mouth and the bell rang.
She rang the bell continuously and when the king’s guards went there, found a Coe ringing the bell.
The minister of the King had seen what happened to the calf, and he explained the sad tale of death and how it happened through the most uncertain accident.
The king almost fell in a swoon when he learnt that his own son was the cause. He tore his hair in extreme sorrow and cried.
Alas, Cow is our beloved friend,
Is not killing a calf as much as a crime as killing one’s own brother or sister?
For the cow is a man’s foster mother.
What can i do to heal the bleeding broken heart of the mother?
The king thought for a while and came to the conclusion that this too was a case in which be absolutely just the law of the Land, then was that life had to be paid for with a life.
He called the minister and ordered him to kill the Prince under the wheels of the same chariot which ran over the Calf.
As the minister unwilling to disobey the king and as he at the same time could not bring himself to take the life of the prince, the minister killed himself.
When the news was brought to the king about the minister's death. He immediately ordered the chariot to be brought.
He rode himself to the spot and there he put an end to the life of his own son by driving the chariot over him.
The king Himself driving the Chariot.
There is a Stone Ratha(Chariot) Depicting the Incident - Thiruvarur Temple.
He killed his son and it did not end here, he tried to kill himself by taking out his sword and plunge it into his own heart.
Then, there appeared Lord Shiva in a Vision of wonderful brightness and a voice spoke and said.
“Great and Good King, do not kill yourself”. “ I admire your love for all living things.”
To show the king’s nobility, Lord Shiva, the voice which spoke, Caused the Death of the calf. As he wanted to show the King’s nobility, love and kindness to animals.
Lord was pleased and brought back the dead calf, his son and his minister back to life. And asked him to continue the same love for animals as he always been.
After enforcing Dharma Ellalan was called as Manu Neethi Cholan
In this manner, south India cherished a culture where cows are respected and taken care of.
In this manner, south India cherished a culture where cows are respected and taken care of.
But, today there are few people in our country who have taken it upon themselves to bring back the Dravidian era So that they have the freedom to slaughter the Cows.
But these people have no idea about the culture of the Dravidian is Sanathana Dharma Itself, taught by legendary Rishis of our Land.
Even a Supreme Court of India Mentioned the name Of Manu Needhi Cholan in the court in 2017 and impressed on the justices to take inspiration from the Tamil King.
Well, not all Tamilians or south Indian are Beef Eaters well they are also staunch worshipers of Cow. You Heard that right, Beef consumption in South states except Kerala is very very less.
Manu Needhi Cholan’s name is also mentioned in SILAPATHIGRAM and PERIYA PURANAM
This is why Manu Needhi Cholan is my all-time favourite who established righteousness in his kingdom by inflicting the extreme sentence of death on his own son for accidentally caused the death of a Calf.
Thank You
Jai Hind!!!
